Every parent deserves to make decisions about how to feed their baby, free from commercial pressure, misleading claims and hidden marketing.
Formula milk is a $55 billion global industry backed by sophisticated marketing that creates doubt about breastfeeding, targets health professionals, and reaches parents at their most vulnerable moments.
The Australian Government has proposed to pass new laws to restrict the marketing of infant formula in Australia. These new laws aim to protect breastfeeding and the appropriate use of infant formula when it is necessary, based upon accurate information.
The Government has just completed a large public consultation about what should be included in the new laws. The work to prepare a draft of the bill will begin shortly. MPs who hear directly from constituents now, will be better informed and more confident in championing the strongest possible protections when the bill is debated and voted on.
Let your MP know how important these new laws are to you, so that they will support the bill when it comes before Parliament.
Your email will inform your Federal MP and senator about the Australian Government's proposed new legal restrictions on infant formula marketing and why they are important to you. Please add a short paragraph including your own experience of the impact of infant formula marketing or why you think the legislation will make a difference. If you have time you can also include a request to meet with you MP to discuss the matter.
